Black Onyx is associated with the 10th anniversary. Onyx comes from Middle English onix, from Middle French & Latin; Middle French, from Latin onych-, onyx, from Greek, literally, claw, nail. Onyx, sard, and sardonyx are all varieties of chalcedony (microcrystaline quartz). Onyx comes in brown, white, grey, and black. Sard is a reddish-brown variety. Sardonyx is a blend of sard and onyx with the red bands of sard and the white bands of onyx The mystical properties of Black Onyx is used to help one change habits. Mexican Onyx (white and brown chalcedony) is said to help one sleep.
