Samsung TV Plus is a free streaming service available through the company’s smart televisions. Using the app, you can access over 100 channels in the US, including Bloomberg, ABC News, Vice, and more. It also includes movies, sports, and reruns. As of December 2013, the app has garnered more than 50 million installs. In fact, it’s been installed on more than half of all smart TVs sold by the Korean manufacturer.
You can download the Samsung TV Plus app on the Samsung website. If your TV has an HDMI port, you can connect your laptop or desktop to the television to transfer the app to your television. The software should take a few minutes to install, so be patient.
To start, you need to know which Samsung TV model you have. Once you have determined which model you have, you need to find the firmware for that particular version. Fortunately, you can find the latest and greatest firmware on the Samsung website. Before you download the update, make sure you have a stable Internet connection. Otherwise, you may see nothing but a black screen. This is due to the fact that the TV will automatically turn off after it has finished installing the update.
While the Samsung TV has a power button on the back of the device, you will need to connect it to a PC or laptop to access the firmware. To get the job done, you will need a USB cable, a computer with Windows or Mac OS, and a USB flash drive. Also, be sure to keep your television turned off during the process, as it can damage your television’s display.
Luckily, you don’t have to be a computer guru to install the Samsung TV Plus app. For the most part, you can use your TV remote to select the Smart Hub icon and the Settings menu. Once the menu is opened, you can click the Settings icon and the Home icon. Lastly, you will need to enter your pin code.
There’s more to the Samsung TV Plus application than meets the eye, however. The app comes with a handful of useful features, including the ability to access news channels such as CNN, ESPN, and the BBC. You can also view reruns of favorite shows and movies, or browse through popular channels like ESPN and Fox News. Some older models of the Samsung TV won’t have this option, however. Despite this, the Samsung TV Plus app is still a worthy competitor in the streaming category.
Other than the usual suspects like Netflix and Hulu, the Samsung TV Plus app has an impressive list of competitors. In addition to the standard broadcast networks, you can choose from dozens of European territories and other countries. Unlike its rivals, the Samsung TV Plus app doesn’t require a subscription. However, it does come with a limited selection of free and premium content. Those with a larger budget can opt for paid subscriptions, but the free service will suffice for most.
